Booking a school visit

nursery visit.jpg
I am always busy around World Book Day so please get in touch early if that is your preferred time. Please see 'in person school visits', below, for a typical World Book Day visit. I'm already booked for World Book Day 2024 and most of that month. I charge a daily rate for school visits, in line with the Society of Authors guidelines, plus travel expenses. See the Society of Authors' Guide for Schools Organising an Author Visit [PDF]

I will occasionally offer shorter visits if I don't have too far to travel (I'm based in East Hertfordshire) or if I'm promoting a new book (see below). Please contact me to find out more.

In-person school visits

A typical visit is a full day and includes a morning assembly, followed by visits to classrooms for age-appropriate sessions around books/reading/writing. I can tailor these sessions or surprise you. I have included a bit more detail below but I am flexible, so if you would like me to fit in with a particular topic or seasonal project then please let me know.

  • Assembly
I will share one of my books with the school, and explain how it found its way from an idea in my head, to a publisher and into the shops.

  • Early Years
20-30 minute sessions: sharing a picture book with an associated activity, for example, creating imaginary bubbles from Bibble and the Bubbles.

  • KS1
30-40 minute sessions: age appropriate writing workshops, for example, a class poem or alliterative story ideas based on Rickety Rocket.

  • KS2
40-60 minute sessions: age appropriate writing workshops, for example, suspense writing or storyboarding.

  • KS3 and older
Talk about my journey to becoming a children's writer, writing advice, Q&A and age-appropriate writing workshops.

  • Book sales
I am always happy to provide a book sale with signed books. I can arrange this via my local independent bookseller or work with a bookshop near you.

Virtual Visits

I offer virtual visits for a small fee (approximately half the price of an in-person visit). I can spend all day with your school, virtually visiting different classes, giving an assembly, book sale and event author photos!
